DAVENHAM cruised to a 10-wicket victory at Northwich when the neighbours met in a group-stage opener at Moss Farm last Thursday.

The visitors skittled the home team for 49 by the 15th over, with Ben Gough (3-12), Dean Jackson (3-9) and Dave Ashley (3-18) combining to do the damage.

Overseas signing Hugh Walker also claimed a wicket.

Only one Northwich batsman was dismissed for a duck, but none reached double-figures.

Gough (34no) and fellow opener Walker then eased higher-ranked Davenham to their target inside a dozen overs, sending them to the top of the table.

Weaverham went down to Alvanley in the same section.

The Russets posted 118-8 after winning the toss, with Jack Oldham (42) at the top of the order the pick of their batsmen.

Kevin Douglas (18) and Salman Hanif (15) were the others to reach double-figures.

Alvanley needed only 14 overs to secure a seven-wicket victory after Simon Gee (34no) and James Ecclestone (33no) eased them away from any danger after coming together at 44-3.

Jonny Littler (2-48) followed an encouraging first-team debut the previous weekend with a couple of wickets.

Oulton Park proved too strong for Barrow in Group Four, cruising to a 101-run victory.

The men from Little Budworth put 180-4 on the board with Martyn East (60) and Matthew Jamieson (62no off 35 balls) – the latter hitting five fours and four maximums – both contributing a half-century.

Craig Douglas (19no) added 75 runs for the fifth wicket with Jamieson.

Barrow were knocked over for 79 in reply after Muhammad Kashif (3-12), Ben Gibbon (2-6) and Richard Smith (2-7) ripped through their order.

That had seemed an unlikely prospect after openers Iroshan De Silva (23) and David McClements (31) put on 45 for the first wicket.

However the next nine fell for just 34 runs.
