PAUL Hough led the way as Winsford’s seconds celebrated a stunning success at table-toppers Cholmondeley in Division C on Saturday.

The left-arm seamer took 6-38 as he ripped through the home team’s batting order, supported by Kev Fitzpatrick who took 3-39.

Youngster Calvin Hughes claimed a first senior wicket to complete the job.

Winsford lost three quick wickets in their reply, but experienced duo Paul Yearsley (46no) and Paul Bassett (23no) held their nerve to take the visitors to 78-3.

Barnton’s seconds earned a deserved share of the spoils from a visit to Oxton’s fourths in Division B West.

The home team ran up 216-7, led by opener Eddie Filer (103) who scored a century, with Derek Bowyer (3-61) and Matty Appleton (3-47) the pick of the visitors’ attack.

Youngster Ben Tranter (44) and captain Matthew Morley (30) got their side back on track after Leigh Cobley departed early, while Nathan Lang (53) continued his improvement by scoring a half-century as they closed on 180-8.

Kingsley’s seconds slumped to a seven-wicket defeat at home to Stretton in the same section.

They had little in the way of resistance for Umer Zeb, who claimed 5-21, as they succumbed for 73.

Stretton cruised to 75-3 after tea.

Oakmere’s seconds could not recover from a disastrous batting collapse, during which six wickets fell for just two runs, as they went down to a 109-run reverse at Lymm in Division A.

Matthew Howard (27) and Sean McDonnell (17) did their best, but the men from Overdale Lane crashed to 58 all out.

Lymm had earlier plundered 99 runs from the final 15 overs of their innings to close on 167-7, with Ian Newall (2-52) and Andy Norton (2-35) the pick of Oakmere’s bowling attack.
