BARNTON were convincing victors at Disley in Division One on Saturday, putting behind them poor performances in the previous fortnight.

They will have been worried about their prospects after the home team reached 110-2 by the drinks break, only for the introduction of spinner Pat Flanagan (4-37) to change the game.

The next eight wickets fell for 43, with Adam Garrod (3-16) and Simon Hancock (1-7) accounting for the others.

Jack Whalley (17) and Callum Doyle (59) put on 41 for the first wicket before a partnership worth 72 for the second between the wicket-keeper and Garrod (57no) took Barnton closer to their target.

They reached it with seven overs to spare, Jordan Cobley (17no) supporting Garrod at the close.

Captain Alec Butcher praised Ben Coulbeck’s contribution after Winnington Park halted a four-game run without a victory by beating Prestbury.

He struck a dozen boundaries and five maximums while racing to 88 off 41 balls – his best innings for the first team.

Butcher (36) and James Hendry (22) contributed too as the visitors closed on 187-8 after being put in.

“Ben was at his destructive best, allowing us to take control,” reflected the skipper afterwards.

“I was impressed we showed our batting ability on a difficult wicket, particularly as we needed get our title challenge back on track.”

Prestbury were knocked over for 131 in reply.

Park’s bowlers had to rally after Sam Barnes sustained an injury, with Iain Connor (5-52) and Phill Amatiello (3-45) doing most of the damage.

Butcher added: “The guys really stepped up; Iain bowled brilliantly, and his five-for was well-deserved.” In-form Kingsley collected maximum points for the fifth time in the past six attempts, cruising to a 132-run victory at home to Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge.

Danny Mullins (100no) contributed an unbeaten ton as they declared on 255-2 after 40 overs, supported by Ben Stoddart (70) and Brent Hartley (34).

They needed the extra overs to end Cheadle’s stubborn resistance, finally dismissing them for 123 at the end of the 49th over.

Steve Kitchen (3-18) and Ben Stoddart (3-26) were the pick of the hosts’ bowling attack, while spin duo Adrian Burden (2-28) and James Faint (2-23) claimed a brace each.
