WILDEN Cornwall inspired Weaverham to a resounding victory against Bollington on Saturday, promoting the Russets to fourth in Division One.

The Antiguan all-round was unbeaten on 93 – including 10 fours and three sixes – when his side’s innings ended at 200-5 in a contest shortened by heavy rainfall to 37 overs per side.

He added 73 runs for the third wicket with captain Ian Eaton (40) and another 52 with James Lewis (22) for the fourth.

Weaverham celebrated a crushing 116-run success when Cornwall took 4-32, backed up by George McCormick (3-17) and Rob McMillan (3-12), helped send back the visitors to Wallerscote Road for 84.

It leaves the Russets 14 points adrift of second-placed Grappenhall, conquerors of lowly Cheadle Hulme.

Also on Saturday, Oulton Park could not prevent leaders Didsbury from chalking up a ninth league win of the campaign.

The men from Little Budworth could be forgiven for feeling confident when they restricted the pacesetters to 160-9 off 45 overs.

Guy Emmett (5-17) was the pick of their attack, supported by Daniel Leech (2-35).

However Oulton were knocked over for 158 in reply, falling three runs short of a victory.

Pat Roberts (65) and Martyn East (52) took them to 125-1 following a 97-run partnership for the second wicket, only for the remaining wickets to fall for 33.

Rhys Davenport (4-18) was Didsbury’s match-winner, aided by three-wicket hauls for Nick Anderson and Simon Normanton.

Captain Daniel Hancock returned the best bowling figures in the division during Davenham’s draw with visiting Tattenhall at Butcher’s Stile.

He claimed 6-28 from seven overs, restricting the away side to 144-9 off 30 overs in a fixture that didn’t start until almost 4pm because of rain.

The home team replied with 82-7, in-form South African batsman Givon Christian (41) claiming half of those at the top of the order.

Leaders Widnes recorded a fourth successive win in Division Two, beating Northwich by seven wickets.

The hosts totalled 135-7 at Moss Farm, where play was cut to 62 overs by rain.

Chandra Wathukapage (47), who made a ton in the Cheshire Shield last week, fell short of a half-century.

However the Sri Lankan put on 53 runs for the fourth wicket with Lee Evans (27).

Widnes then reached their victory target with three overs to spare, led by openers Danny Naughton (46) and Matt Burns (36) who shared in a first-wicket stand worth 68 runs.

Mike Whitehead took two of the three wickets to fall.
