WEAVERHAM struck a blow in a first battle with Davenham this season after recording a 40-run win at Wallerscote Road in Division One on Saturday.

The Russets were restricted to 166 all out after winning the toss, captain Ian Eaton (35), Wilden Cornwall (30) and Kevin Waterhouse (42) unable to build on starts while Stephen Bliss (4-43) and Ben Gough (2-43) both starred in their neighbours’ bowling attack.

They then made it to 91-4 in their reply, only for the next six wickets to fall for 35 to leave them all out for 126.

Cornwall and Rob McMillan returned identical figures of 3-28, while Sam Hunt (23) and John O’Sullivan (20) were Davenham’s highest scorers.

Faltering Oulton Park have not won now in four Division matches after drawing a close encounter with Cheadle Hulme.

Kiwi Sam Blandford (5-50) and Matt Parkinson (4-45) combined to restrict the home team to 170-9 after the visitors had won the toss.

They fell three runs short after tea, closing on 167-9.

After Daniel Leech (44) contributed at the top of the order, Blandford (29) and Guy Emmett (40) almost secured for their side a first victory since May 7.

Sri Lankan Chandrika Wathukapage hit a splendid 112 to help Northwich beat high-flying Lindow by 87 runs in their Division Two encounter at Moss Farm.

He hit 13 fours and three sixes as the hosts made it to 253-4 – their highest total of the campaign.

Skipper Mark Walker (40no) shared in a 111-run partnership for the third wicket after Glinoj Cherian (50) contributed to one worth 88 for the second.

Sam Shepherd (6-52) then found his best form to send back the visitors for 167.

Middlewich’s woes continued during a nine-wicket reverse at home to Upton.

They were knocked over for 97 in 31 overs after openers Adam Donnelly (25) and Luke Blanchard (20) put on 43 for the first wicket, Tom Maguire (5-18) doing the damage.

The visitors to Haddon Field then cruised to victory by the 17th over.
