A STUNNING bowling display from Sam Barnes changed the course of Winnington Park’s latest Cheshire League encounter.

Visitors Chelford, chasing 192 to win at the Rec, appeared to be on course for a comfortable victory at 145-3.

However Barnes (7-54) ripped through the rest of their order, including a hat-trick and a fourth wicket in the same over, to secure for his side a sixth successive win in Division Two.

They did so in style, Jonny Wales holding on to a stunning diving catch on the boundary to account for last man Umar Khan.

“Sam’s performance with the ball was phenomenal, backed up by brilliant catches,” said captain Alec Butcher.

“Jonny’s was one of the best I’ve seen at the Rec.”

Winnington had reached 139-2, including a partnership of 81 for the second wicket between Martin Evans (58) and Jordan Daly (55), before a late collapse led to the final eight wickets falling for 52.

Humayan Khalid (4-51) impressed for Chelford.

Butcher added: “We lost concentration for large parts of the game, and that’s something we’re determined to improve on.

“We didn’t play anywhere close to our potential, but managed to lift ourselves at crucial times.”

Oakmere ended their wait for a first league victory by beating Woodford at Overdale Lane.

Set a target of 123 to win, a second-wicket stand worth 86 runs between Alex Hodges (35) and Rick Lyons (60no) took the home team most of the way there.

Harrison Jones (4-42) was the pick of an attack that knocked over the visitors for 122 after winning the toss.

Kingsley slumped to a heavy eight-wicket reverse at promoted Port Sunlight in the same section.

They had no answer to Taylor Cox, who took 5-32, succumbing for 77.

Brent Hartley (24) was one of only three batsmen to reach double-figures.

Tom Waring (2-13) claimed the only wickets to fall as the hosts cruised to victory at 78-2 inside 14 overs.

Heavy rainfall prompted the abandonment of Barnton’s match away to Runcorn in Division One, where the hosts’ playing surface was left flooded during their reply.

Earlier, Simon Hancock’s side posted 199-8 after losing the toss.

Paul Coot (38) and Callum Doyle (54) put on 93 runs for the first wicket, only for a flurry of wickets to then fall around Adam Garrod (55).

Mike Cross (30no) batted patiently late on.
