WEAVERHAM climbed to the Division One summit on Saturday as a reward for their five-wicket win at neighbours Oulton Park.

The hosts, asked to bat after losing the toss, posted 195 all out.

Opening pair Martyn East (42) and Daniel Leech (25) shared in an 80-run partnership before both fell victim to Mike Dean (2-28).

Antiguan all-rounder Wilden Cornwall (7-43) again bowled superbly to rip through the rest of the Little Budworth outfit’s batting order, in which Tom Hyslop (31) was the next highest scorer.

Matthew Jamieson (37) and Dean (41) set the Russets on course for victory before Rob McMillan’s unbeaten 42, which included seven fours and a six, steered them to their target.

Davenham are still waiting to add to their opening-day success after a five-wicket loss to Sale at Dane Road.

They were sent back for 169, with in-form Sam Hunt (64) – who had scored a century in a T20 group-stage encounter against Middlewich on Thursday – again leading the way after Mark Greaves contributed 41 early on.

Rick Halkon took 5-33.

Mat Spells (48) and Brooke Guest (44no) both played pivotal roles in Sale’s reply, which reached 170-5 in the 39th over.

Northwich produced their best batting performance of the campaign so far to earn a draw at Mobberley in Division Two.

Set a target of 255 to win, they had made it to 244-6 at stumps.

After youngster Sam Stoneley (42 off 35 balls) scored quickly at the top of the order, Lee Evans (69) and Sri Lankan Chandrika Wathukapage (61) put on 128 runs for the third wicket.

Earlier, Charlie Nield’s 92 had helped the hosts to 254-7 after they won the toss.

Nathan Wood (56) made a half-century too, while Sam Shepherd (3-59) was the pick of Northwich’s bowlers.

Luke Houghton’s stubborn resistance earned Middlewich a draw at Widnes, who had started the season with three successive wins.

The visitors had to bat for 57 overs to avoid defeat, reaching 209-8 at the close with Houghton (68no including 11 fours) unbeaten.

He also added 63 runs for the seventh wicket with Kallum Boyle (31).

Earlier the table-toppers had declared at 222-6 after 43 overs, led by Fayaz Ughradar (67).
