SKIPPER Simon Hancock inspired Barnton to a first victory since being promoted to the Cheshire League’s top-flight at the weekend.

The hosts were toiling in high temperatures at Broomsedge, where visitors Bredbury raced to 92-2, before he introduced himself to the attack.

It changed the game’s direction, and he returned figures of 6-37 from 13 overs as the away team closed on a disappointing 175-9.

Barnton’s reply started slowly after tea, until Adam Garrod’s run-a-ball 60 accelerated their scoring rate in a third-wicket partnership worth 52 with Jordan Cobley (32).

Cory Devanny (20) was patient when wickets fell in quick succession before Hancock and Neil Langham saw their side to victory with three overs left.

Oakmere had the better of a draw in Division Two at Stockport Trinity, where they posted 191-5 after being put in.

Captain Craig Phelan (66) and Rick Lyons (80) shared in a century stand for the second wicket as they both passed 50, while Mike Stopford took four of the five wickets to fall.

Trinity made it to 162-9, with Harrison Jones (3-43) and Phelan (2-42) among the wickets for the men from Overdale Lane.

Kingsley are waiting to celebrate a maiden win in 2016 after drawing with Ashley.

They collected batting bonus-points after totalling 198-9 on a hard track, with Danny Mullins (38), Ben Stoddart (32), returning Kieron Ollier (27) and Alex Wilson (25) all contributing.

Subtain Baig took 4-35 for the visitors.

Steve Kitchen (1-13 off eight overs) bowled efficiently as Ashley fell behind the required run-rate, ambling to 131-5 by the close.

James Faint (2-21) and Chris Martin (1-18) bowled well too.

Winnington Park did not have a fixture following the withdrawal of Malpas from the league.
