Over Peover 117
Northwich 117
FOR the third time this season Northwich 2nds played their part in a tight game.
Having won two previous games from the last ball, this time they could not quite do enough.
The home side won the toss and, knowing the conditions better, opted to bat first.
Richard Maddock took an early wicket but the hosts rallied to 82-1.
Captain Mark O'Neil then took two wickets with successive deliveries the rest began to tumble. There were two wickets for Jimmy Kimber, one each for 16-year-olds Mike Whitehead and Craig Douglas, plus three more for Lee Evans to finish the innings off on 117.
Northwich set off in fine style but a top order collapse left them at 39-5.
The middle order started to respond, led by Kimber and Douglas, but the ninth wicket fell at 99.
Final pair of O'Neil and Whitehead needed to find 19 runs.
They took their time and, 11 overs later, the scores were level.
However in a final twist Whitehead was bowled to leave both sides to share the points.
