BARNTON, beaten by high-flying Lindow in Division A on Saturday, need seven points from their final match to avoid relegation.

Their opponents Poynton, must win to achieve the same objective.

Barnton’s bowling attack had too small a total to defend at the weekend after they were dismissed for 100, a 60-run partnership between Leigh Cobley (45) and Matty Appleton providing the solitary highlight.

Captain Matthew Morley claimed his 50th wicket of the campaign during the visitors’ reply, which closed at 101-6 in the 31st over.

Oakmere extended a winning sequence to 10 matches in Division B, ensuring they will be promoted as champions.

Mike Cushion’s five-wicket haul helped restrict 10-man Prestbury to 166 all out before an unbroken partnership worth 117 runs between Paul Guilford (75no) and Rob Hartwell (50no) eased the men from Overdale Lane to a nine-wicket victory.

Kingsley suffered a four-wicket defeat at home to Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge, who dismissed their hosts for 117.

Only opener Lee Tasker (22) and Tom Waring (31) made significant contributions, the latter marshalling the tail to three figures with support from captain Julian Holmes.

Waring took 2-38 in Cheadle’s winning reply.

Winnington Park ensured their survival with a game to spare following a three-wicket success against Langley – their fifth win in the past eight games.

Stand-in captain Stu Moniz (4-21), in tandem with James Hanson (3-47), restricted the hosts to 116 all out.

Ben Birchenall (2-4) and Dan Barnes (1-3) removed the tail.

Opener Kendol Richardson was again the top scorer in Winnington’s chase, his 34 including a four and two sixes.

A 40-run partnership between Joe Paterson (16) and Sam Speak (28) took them close to the finish, although four wickets fell for 19 runs before 14-year-old Alex Snapes saw them over the line.

Winsford conceded their encounter with Port Sunlight in Division C.
