WINNINGTON Park picked a perfect moment to end a wait to win on home turf, claiming a thrilling one-run win against Bunbury at the weekend.

Their bowlers settled a close encounter, dismissing the visitors for 134.

Jonny Wales (5-34) was again the star, but Tom Speak (3-67 off 18 overs) removed danger-man Nick Ball (41) before then taking the final wicket in the 48th over.

“Outstanding performances from Jonny and Tom rescued what could be crucial win,” said skipper Alec Butcher afterwards.

“It was an impressive comeback after we let ourselves down with the bat.”

Bunbury had appeared on course for victory at 96-4, chasing 136, only for six wickets to fall for 38 runs.

Earlier, Ben Coulbeck (47) struck six boundaries in his side’s below-par total, with Sam Barnes’ 17 the next best score.

Barnton’s promotion hopes were hit when they drew with lowly Stockport Trinity at Broomsedge.

Openers Paul Coot (50) and Rick Farnworth (39) took the hosts to 89, while Adam Garrod (90no) and Ben Wingfield’s partnership for the fifth wicket was worth 73 runs in a final tally of 221-5 declared.

They were favourites to win when Neil Langham (3-45) and Cory Devanny (2-45) reduced Stockport to 102-7, only for an eighth-wicket stand worth 115 between Oliver Potts (58) and Richard Higginbotham (61no) to scupper their chances as the visitors closed three runs short on 219-8.

Oakmere went down by three wickets at home to Woodford, who chased 201 to win.

Harrison Jones (3-32) was the pick of the hosts’ attack, supported by Guy Groves (2-46), but Gareth Moorhouse (65) – who shared in partnerships worth 53 runs with Ben Walker (36) and a further 49 with Simon Elms (29no) – anchored the visitors’ reply.

Earlier, Jones (68) and Rick Lyons (31) put on 91 for the third wicket as Oakmere reached 200-5.

Dan Wood (41no off 29 balls) contributed too.

Kingsley suffered a seven-wicket defeat at home to Chester County Officers, succumbing for 123 after losing the toss.

Alex Wilson (30) and Ben Stoddart (24) posted the biggest scores, but the visitors to the Croft were untroubled in reaching their target by the 39th over.

Struggling Winsford continue to prop up their rivals in Division Three following a 68-run defeat against Aston at Knights Grange.

Rob Draper (106) scored a ton for the visitors before they declared at 207-8, Barry Crellin (4-26) returning the best figures of the hosts’ attack.

Winsford fell short at 139, Crellin (54) completing a fine individual performance with a half-century.
