WINNINGTON Park picked a perfect moment to end their four-match sequence without a victory, beating Division Two leaders Lymm on Saturday.

Skipper Alec Butcher (104) led the way, hitting a maiden first-team ton from just 80 balls as the visitors reached 200-5 after being put in.

He hit 12 fours and five sixes.

James Hendry (40no) was the only other player to make an impact.

Another fine individual effort, this time from Iain Connor who took six wickets, helped his side claim maximum points.

Jonny Wales (2-39) saw off danger-man Nafees Din (57), caught on the boundary by Ben Coulbeck.

Lymm almost pinched a draw, but fell a dozen balls short after Connor bowled a double-wicket maiden to secure a win that keeps Park in second spot.

“It was a fantastic team performance,” said Butcher afterwards.

“An excellent display in the field kept Lymm under pressure throughout their chase, and we took our chances at critical moments in the game.

“We played with confidence, and the target is to carry that same focus into our next game.”

Oakmere posted their highest total of the campaign in a draw with Kingsley at Overdale Lane.

Opening pair Paul Yearsley (25) and Alex Hodges (33) laid a foundation, though a partnership worth 56 runs for the fourth wicket between Harrison Jones (61no) and Alex Wood (25) was the biggest as their innings closed on 198-4.

After tea, Mitch Headrick (53) kept the visitors’ run-chase alive until his departure.

Jones (3-31) and Guy Groves (4-50) ensured wickets fell regularly as Kingsley reached the finish on 170-8.

Barnton lost by four wickets in the same section at Haslington, where they were bowled out for 154 after losing the toss.

A 69-run partnership for the third wicket between Adam Garrod (59) and Rick Farnworth (29) offered promise, but only two batsmen below them in the order reached double figures on a slow pitch.

Haslington opener Rob Coombes smashed 62 off 36 balls, including 11 fours, before skipper Simon Hancock (4-32) claimed his wicket.

It proved not to be a catalyst; an unbroken 55-run partnership for the seventh wicket securing victory for the hosts.

Winsford avoided defeat for the first time this season in Division Three, last-wicket duo James Copnall and Derek Sergeant frustrating visitors Sandbach at Knights Grange.

The hosts closed on 140-9, with Craig Webb (67) and Craig Edmundson (25) among the runs.

Earlier, Webb claimed 5-27 off seven overs in the away team’s 160 all out.
