WINNINGTON Park’s sequence without a win stretched to four matches on Saturday, but they still occupy a promotion position in Division Two.

Captain Alec Butcher said his side had lacked ruthlessness in a 13-run reverse at Stockport Trinity.

He added: “A poor start put us in a tough position, but we battled well and were disappointed to lose.

“I felt we were in control for a good part of the game, but we don’t have that killer instinct that confidence from winning matches gives you.”

Trinity totalled 135 after being put in, spin duo James Hendry (2-24) and Jonny Wales (5-24) proving effective for the visitors.

A rain delay left Park with 37 overs to win, but they fell short after five batsmen failed to capitalise after making a start.

Butcher (36) was most successful, but Stockport’s Jibran Khan (7-55) proved to be Stockport’s match-winner.

A partnership for the sixth wicket worth 118 runs between Ben Wingfield (57no) and Pat Flanagan (65 off 57 balls) rescued Barnton’s innings at home to Oakmere.

After struggling to 51-5, they closed on 182-6.

Matt Norton took 3-50.

The visitors were grateful to Harrison Jones (54no), who batted for 39 overs to earn them a share of the spoils at 115-9.

Their top-order could not cope with the swing of Cory Devanny (6-36), who was supported by economic spells from Neil Langham (1-22 off 12 overs) and the spin of Flanagan (1-9 off 11).

Australian Mitchell Headrick (114) scored a century, with 94 of his runs accounted for by boundaries, as Kingsley set table-toppers Lymm a target of 212.

Ed Leneghan (30no) took the Crofters past 200.

Lymm wobbled at 34-3 following a rain delay, but an unbeaten stand worth 129 between Ben Phillips (76no) and Travis Scholes (78no) ensured they collected maximum points following a six-wicket win.

Travis Martin and Steve Kitchen shared the wickets to fall.

Kingsley remain third in the table, four points adrift of Winnington.

Winsford had reason to be optimistic after dismissing Division Three leaders Port Sunlight for 164, with Ben Crellin among the wickets after taking 4-30.

However they succumbed for 94 in reply to lose by 70 runs, Craig Edmondson contributing 35.
