DAVENHAM’S latest victory on Saturday, a fifth in succession, was one of the most comfortable.

Set a target of 181 to win by guests Bredbury St Mark’s, they reached it with 16 overs to spare thanks in large part to a hard-hitting knock from Dave Price (91no) with support from Oli Gallagher (40) after captain Martin Goff (25ret) retired hurt.

Earlier, Gallagher ended a promising first-wicket partnership to slow the visitors’ run-rate.

Darren Evans (46) and Jordan Brooks (35) upped the tally late on, but fit-again Mike Kouris (4-38) and Adam Day (2-31) combined to prevent the total being higher.

Weaverham are fourth in the Division Two table following a four-wicket win at Oulton Park.

The hosts posted 215-9 at Little Budworth after being put in, with a 64-run partnership between skipper Mark Johnson (40) and Mike Cook (37) for the fifth wicket a highlight.

For the Russets, Stuart Hayes took 5-45 from 19 overs.

At the crease, Rob Harrison (49) and Stef Bell (60) added 99 runs for the fourth wicket before Tom Hulse (46no) completed the chase in a close contest’s penultimate over.

Northwich lost by six wickets at Cheadle Hulme, where they scored 169-8 after being put in.

Wicket-keeper Ryan Twigg (41) was their top scorer.

The home team reached their victory target with plenty to spare at 172-4, with Mark Wrench (3-32) the pick of the Moss Farm men’s bowling attack.

In Division One, bad light put paid to Middlewich’s hopes of dismissing Congleton in a draw at Haddon Field.

A partnership worth 67 runs for the fourth wicket between Tom Shepherd (27) and skipper Alex Gill (42) was a highlight of the hosts’ innings as they posted 177-7.

Andrew Davies (33) and Kallum Boyle (29no) contributed too.

Congleton’s reply, halted twice by rain, ended at 117-7 with Davies (4-62) most productive of the Middlewich bowlers.
