WINNINGTON Park failed to win for a third successive Saturday, losing a close contest with Kingsley in the final over.

Ben Stoddart (127no) was the visitors’ match-winner, steering them to a two-wicket win by anchoring a successful chase for 208.

The opener shared in a 76-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Danny Mullins (31) before finishing the job with four balls to spare.

Bryan Shingler (4-32) was Park’s stand-out bowler, supported by Sam Barnes (2-44) and Jonny Wales (2-54) – the latter increasing his tally for the season to 24.

Winnington had reason to be optimistic at tea, collecting maximum batting points after posting 207-4.

Captain Alec Butcher (57) hit a third half-century in his past four innings before Wales (85no) and James Hendry (26no) shared in an unbeaten partnership.

Steve Kitchen (2-25) was best with the ball for Kingsley.

Butcher said: “We didn’t quite have the cutting edge in the field we needed, but can learn a lesson from that.

“We’ve the hunger and determination to bounce back.”

Craig Phelan’s six-wicket haul helped Oakmere to skittle Chester County Officers for 110, securing a 28-run success at Overdale Lane.

The hosts had posted 138 all out, losing their final seven wickets for just 24 runs.

Harrison Jones (33), who later claimed the wicket of danger-man Graham Dodd in Chester’s reply, was their leading scorer.

Barnton gave Lymm a scare before succumbing to a five-wicket defeat in the same section.

Defending a small total after being dismissed for 104, they reduced the Division Two leaders to 27-4 only for a half-century partnership for the fifth wicket to take the game from them.

Cory Devanny took 3-33 for Simon Hancock’s men.

Earlier, Adam Garrod (26) and Ben Wingfield (20) were the only batsmen to pass 20.

A ninth successive defeat, this time by five wickets against Over Peover at Knights Grange, leaves Winsford adrift at the bottom of Division Three.

They scored 147-5 after being put in, an unbeaten partnership between Craig Edmundson (37no) and Barry Crellin (45no) boosting the total after Ben Nightingale (2-24) and Mat Tucker (2-31) had made inroads at the top of their batting order.

Peover reached their target in the 38th over, with Jon Bodimeade’s half-century a highlight of their reply after Danny Holton (2-30) had removed both openers for Winsford.
