WEAVERHAM suffered a surprise defeat at home to Cheadle Hulme in Division One on Saturday.

The Russets struggled to recover from a slow start after winning the toss and batting first, slumping to 126 all out in 36 overs.

Matthew Jamieson (36) was their leading scorer at the top of the order, while a late cameo from James Lewis (32no off 17 balls) tipped the total over 100.

Stuart Wilson (5-29) and Rana Malook (4-88) bowled unchanged for the visitors.

Ifti Naseer contributed 47 to Cheadle’s winning response, reaching 127-3 in the 29th over. Wilden Cornwall took 2-26 for Weaverham.

Middlewich prop up their rivals at the bottom of the table following a three-wicket reverse at second-placed Timperley.

The visitors were bundled out for 102, with Kristian Clowes (47 off 29 balls) hitting seven boundaries lower down the order after they had tumbled to 34-7.

Jack White (6-52) did the damage.

Timperley were made to work for their fourth win of the campaign, Dave Howarth (33no) helping them home after they had fallen to 77-7.

Middlewich’s Stuart Price took 4-39.

Leaders Sale inflicted a first league defeat on Oulton Park, winning by five wickets in the game of the day.

Put in, the men from Little Budworth made it to 220-6 thanks in large part to Daniel Leech (72).

Andrew Mills and Martin East (both 37) contributed too.

Captain Chris Canning (83) and Tyrone Lawrence (63) both passed a half-century as Sale topped their guests at 221-5, East and Andrew Hards claiming two wickets each.

Christleton won a basement battle with Davenham by five wickets.

Mark Greaves’ men ran up 225-5 after winning the toss, Sam Hunt (77) and Ben Gough (55) putting on 94 runs for the third wicket before Hunt and Chris Hornby (65no off 43 balls) added 99 more for the fifth.

However the hosts replied with 228-5 after tea, Tufail Talha (61) and Rob Marks (60) making it to 122 before Hunt (3-58) broke through.

Sam Shepherd (5-25) and Chamindu Ishanka (3-38) led the way as Northwich recorded a third successive victory in Division Two.

They combined to bowl out visitors Bredbury for 88 at Moss Farm before youngster Sam Stoneley (57 off 20 balls) propelled them towards a target reached in the 15th over.
