WEAVERHAM were not at their best, but found a way to secure a two-wicket win at Christleton in Division One.

Captain Ian Eaton (60no) shared in a partnership worth 89 runs for the seventh wicket with Mike Dean (48) that saw the Russets to victory at 183-8.

“It’s a positive sign that we can be below-par and still win the game,” said Eaton afterwards.

“Winning is a habit, and at this level we can’t afford to take anything for granted.”

He had put in the home team after winning the toss, a decision vindicated when Kevin Douglas claimed a wicket in the first over.

Mitchell Renwick (42) and Matt Astbury (43) were dogged afterwards, but they were both dismissed by Wilden Cornwall (5-57).

A rapid 29, off only 10 balls, from Zaighum Abbas increased Christleton’s total to 181 late on.

Davenham were disappointed to lose by four runs at home to Tattenhall after bowling out their guests forjust 101.

Ryan Blackie (2-21) removed danger men Oliver Thompson (31) and Dan Power (36) before Tim Niemand (4-18) and Dan Hancock (3-9) ripped through the lower order.

First-wicket duo James Loveridge (26) and Sam Hunt (20) took Davenham to 54 before disaster struck, the visitors’ left-arm spinner David Shewring (7-18) removing six of the top seven batsmen for just nine runs.

After he captured the wicket of Niemand (18), the hosts fell to 97 all out with Robin Taylor (13no) left unbeaten.

Middlewich were unable to prevent Sale recording a third win in the same section, losing by four wickets at Haddon Field.

Rick Halkon (5-51) and Tyrone Lawrence (5-56) were in control for the visitors as they dismissed the hosts for 110, for whom only Kristian Clowes (51 off 36 balls) was defiant.

Stephen Bliss (3-33) and Pat Hurley (3-30) made it uncomfortable for Sale after tea, but they did not have enough runs to protect.

New recruit Chaminda Ishanka took six wickets, but Northwich slumped to a surprise two-run reverse against Mobberley at Moss Farm.

With the Knutsford outfit sent packing for 115, Mark Walker’s men were favourites.

But James Gittings (40) aside, and a 30-run partnership between last-wicket pair Andrew Dufty (25) and Mike Whitehead, his side flopped in reply to 113 all out.
