WEAVERHAM beat Northwich in spectacular fashion at Moss Farm on Saturday, crushing their neighbours by 10 wickets to strengthen their lead at the table’s summit.

Mark Walker’s men, beaten only once in Division Two previously since being promoted, were dismissed for just 31 inside 18 overs – the lowest team total in the section this season.

Kevin Waterhouse was the Russets’ star turn, returning career-best figures of 8-20 in a nine-over spell that included five maidens.

Seven batsmen were clean bowled.

Opening pair Alex Nash and Rob MacMillan needed only five overs to secure maximum points.

Davenham recovered at the first attempt from losing to Macclesfield the previous week, beating visitors Didsbury by 31 runs in Division One at Butcher’s Stile.

The home team were dismissed for 145 after being asked to bat, Australian Kendel Fleming (61) scoring a half-century at the top of the order.

Didsbury stuttered to 114 all out in reply, with bowlers Ben Gough (4-32) and Dan Hancock (4-33) combining to secure 25 points for their side.

Middlewich were skittled for 84 at Macclesfield, where Jack Ward’s five-wicket haul accounted for their top order.

Jamie Williams (26) was their leading scorer.

First team newcomer Jason Knight (37) put on 71 with fellow opener John Birchall (29) as Macc eased to 88-2.

James Cornford took 2-22 for Middlewich.

Christleton squeezed to a narrow success at home to Oulton Park in a contest reduced to 60 overs by the wet weather.

The hosts struggled to 113-6, with Iroshan de Silva (52) accounting for half of those while Andy Hards (4-45) led the visitors’ attack.

Seamer Steve Johnson (6-42) and Ifti Naseer (3-21) proved too good for Oulton’s in-form batsmen, bowling out the away team for 111.

Martyn East (32) was dismissed by the former with the contest’s penultimate delivery.
