NEWCOMER Gregg Ayres inspired Weaverham to their first win of the season on Saturday.

The Kiwi all rounder helped himself to five wickets before later adding a half century as the Russetts saw off Over Peover at Wallerscote Road in their Division Two clash.

Batting first, the visitors reached 134 all out.

They had been 100-2 before New Zealand import Ayres took 5-12 off eight overs to act as the catalyst for a batting collapse.

Stefan Bell weighed in with a maiden wicket for the first team while Allen Bell and Chris Hemmings added one victim each on a day when Steve Pinnington scooped the catch of the campaign so far.

Skipper Rob McMillan (61no) and Ayres (51no) eased Weaverham over the winning line at 135-2, sharing an unbroken 104-run stand for the third wicket.

Points: Weaverham 25, Over Peover 5.

NORTHWICH were left to rue failing to bowl out their opponents for the second successive week.

This time Lymm were their opponents at Moss Farm when, batting first, skipper John O'Sullivan top scored with a fluent 41 as the hosts posted 189-8.

Martyn East (32), Dave Price (24) and Nigel Goolding (24no) all chipped in as Northwich smashed 33 runs from the last 18 balls.

At 39-3 from 20 overs Lymm looked in trouble but, despite Stuart Hayes returning 5-40, they hung on to close on 132-8.

Points: Northwich 16, Lymm OP 8.

WINSFORD lost for the first time this season when Division Two pacesetters Alderley Park visited Knights Grange.

Captain Barry Crellin won the toss and batted first, opener Martin Barrett (51) hitting seven boundaries on his way to the team's top score in their 134.

Brian Smith (17), Colin Dean (16) and Kieran Berrington (15) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as the hosts capitulated, losing their final seven wickets for just 22 runs in an eight over spell.

Alderley's batsmen found boundaries easier to come by on a drying outfield before Berrington finally made a breakthrough but it was too late to stop the visitors from clinching victory with four overs to spare.

The Winsford Conservative Club's star man award went to Barrett.

Points: Winsford 5, Alderley Park 25.

BARNTON were on the wrong end of a losing draw at Barrow.

Fielding first, they managed to restrict the hosts to 172-6 on a good batting track, with Matthew Bebbington taking 5-35.

But Barnton's batsmen found it difficult to gather any momentum, putting on 98-6.

Points: Barrow 15, Barnton 5.

OAKMERE slumped to their second successive Division One defeat against Ashton-on-Mersey at Overdale Lane.

Brothers Stewart Eaton (67) and Ian Eaton (59) helped their side to an impressive 183-6, helped by Paul Hutchinson (23).

And the hosts looked in control as Ashton slid to 45-3 but their tail enders held firm to see them home in the final over, closing on 184-7.

Pete Hutchinson (2-53) and Stewart Eaton (2-61) were the pick of the bowling attack.

Points: Oakmere 14, Ashton-on-Mersey 25.

DEAN Jackson weighed in with another five-wicket haul as Davenham drew at Division One newboys Congleton.

His 6-45, off 23 overs, restricted the hosts to 155-9 chasing 218 to win.

Earlier the Butchers Stile side had reached 217-7, Dave Holden (63), captain Dave Ashley (45) and Darren Simmons (29no) each making key contributions.

Points: Congleton 10, Davenham 17.
