CASTLE Private A were a surprise casualty against Davenham A.

Facing a 92-chalk handicap, the mid Cheshire champions fell short by 10 at Owley Wood against the Section Four outfit.

It was an easier night for the other favourites as Frodsham Red Lion A scored a full house against Barnton CC B while Wharton Cons A enjoyed a walkover against Bunbury.

Holders Slow and Easy A also went safely through at the expense of Wharton Cons C.

However Wharton Cons B were another surprise top tier casualty, going down against Winnington Park Rec A at Crowton despite only having a 12-chalk deficit to overhaul.

Kelsall A sneaked through by three against Barnton CC A after making up a 34-chalk difference.

The next round takes place on Monday, June 16.
