ONLY three Mid-Cheshire Bowling Association sides made it through to the second stage.

League champions Castle Private were too good for Hesweall RBL, while Winsford duo Wharton Cons and Winsford Cons also won their first round matches against United Services and Grappenhall respectively.

Five mid Cheshire teams fell at the first hurdle.

Winnington Park Recreation Club had the toughest task against holders Budenberg, eventually bowing out 234-191.

Barnton CC and Beech Tree lost against Sale's Legh Arms and Higher Tranmere respectively, while Rudheath Sports and Social Club missed out against Oxton Cons.

Five mid Cheshire teams - Comberbach, Davenham, Slow and Easy, Frodsham Red Lion and Meadow Bank - all have byes to the second round.
