GLYNN Cookson was the star of the show for Cheshire as they made a winning start to their Endsleigh Senior County Championship campaign on Sunday.

The Wharton Cons veteran earned the Man of the Match prize in an impressive away leg success at Staffordshire, defeating his opponent 21-9.

Cheshire ran out 239-188 at Chadsmoor in Section One, claiming an overall victory by a 71-chalks margin.

Mid Cheshire’s best two teams, Northwich-based Castle Private and Wharton Cons from Winsford, supplied seven of the dozen bowlers on duty in Cannock.

Cookson was joined by son Simon and clubmates Danny Nixon, Thomas Vickers and Shaun Yearsley alongside Castle pair Jason Cornes and Stephen Morrey.

Cheshire ran out 230-210 victors in the home leg at Alderley Sports and Social Club, an aggregate win of 469-398.

In the other Section Two clash, Yorkshire defeated North Midlands.

The next round of matches is on June 5.
