WHARTON Rec plan to host a series of weekly taster sessions this month aimed at newcomers to their chosen sport.

Members at the Winsford club will be on hand to offer tips and advice on technique, as well as explain the rules of the game.

An introduction is scheduled for next Tuesday, from 2pm.

Wharton have entered a second team in the Mid-Cheshire Bowling Association this season, and have vacancies for first-time or returning players.

“Historically, we’ve been a nursery for local bowling talent,” said secretary Brian Davies.

“That includes the likes of Glynn Cookson and Tom Vickers, who have gone on to play for Cheshire as well as enjoying success on the national stage.”

Wharton also field sides in the Norley League, when matches take place on Tuesday afternoons or Wednesday evenings, and the Sandbach and District League.

The 2017 campaign starts next month.

Davies added: “At this stage, we’d just invite anybody to come along and give it a go.

“It doesn’t matter if you’ve played bowls previously.”
