TONY Malisch, from Lostock Graylams, starts the defence of his Mid-Cheshire Bowling Association’s Challenge Shield crown at Meadowbank next Tuesday.

His son, Jon, won the competition the previous season.

Former champions Frank Robinson, from Castle Private, Moulton’s Nick Walton, two-time winner Barry Ellis (Frodsham Red Lion) and 2008 winner Alan Lowe, of Rudheath, are among those hoping to progress to the intermediate round.

Malisch’s clubmate Andy Woodyatt and Hazel Pear’s Chris Oswell, victor of the inaugural edition back in 1994, have entered this season too.
