TERRY Bebbington begins the defence of the Mid-Cheshire Bowling Association’s Joe Robinson Trophy next Thursday.

The Wharton Cons member won the competition for the first time last summer, beating 2011 victor Gerald Merry (Delamere) in the final at Rudheath Social.

Four former champions, Kelsall duo Alan Bannister and John Spruce plus Rudheath’s Ron Hitchen and Norman Greatbanks from Hazel Pear, are among the 26-strong contenders in the qualifying round.

Four will progress to the final from each of two greens, Wharton Cons and Winsford Cons.
