MEGAN Huxley led her team to a terrific second place on Saturday.

The Middlewich teenager finished eighth in the U15s Girls race on her debut at the North of England Cross Country Championships.

At 13, she was giving away more than a year's experience to most of her rivals.

Vale Royal AC clubmates Charlotte Mills, Claire Perry and Lucy Wittick all crossed the line inside the top 30 finishers to earn a team silver medal.

Three of the four will be running in the same age group at next year's event.

Rebecca Craigie, another running against older girls, claimed the best individual placing of the day for Vale Royal when she claimed sixth spot in the U17s Women's race.

Clubmate Kathy Stringer was 12th.

Emily Furber and Kate Howard were top 60 finishers as the girls narrowly missed out on a team medal by just four points.

For the boys Andrew Clews edged into the top 20 in the U17s Men's category with a 19th place finish.

The U13s boys line up of Lewis Healey, Mike Vennard, Andrew Zimmer, Jack Quinn and Josh Boyce finished in eighth position, the best ever for that age group for Vale Royal AC.

Their female counterparts, including Hannah Bishop, Louise Towers, Kate Moulds and Jade Evans, notched an excellent sixth place finish.
