Cheshire Cross Country Championships are postponed due to weather

THE Cheshire Cross Country Championships, scheduled for this weekend, have been postponed until further notice because the course at Nantwich is frozen.

A decision was made following an inspection earlier today, Thursday.

“It is frozen hard, very uneven and rutted in places so the local organisers decided it was not safe,” said John Driscoll, from Cheshire County Athletic Association (CCAA).

The Guardian understands that the CCAA has asked hosts Reaseheath College if the annual competition can take place at the end of this month instead.

But no decision has yet been made.

Vale Royal Athletics Club plans to send a record number of runners to this year’s edition after more than 100 signed up across a dozen age categories.

The Winsford-based outfit returned home with 10 gold medals last time out, split equally between individuals and teams.

Vale Royal AC defends five team titles in south Cheshire, four of them for females; U13s boys and girls, U15s girls, U17s girls and senior women.

But none of the singles winners – Louise Towers (U13s Girls), Megan Huxley (U15s Girls), Andy Clews (U17s Boys), Nikki Meadows (U17s Girls) and Tom Annable (V40) – can go for repeat glory as they all compete in a different age class this time.
