STUART Doyle helped England to collective victory at the British and Irish Masters Cross Country International in Cardiff on Saturday.

The Vale Royal Athletics Club star was fourth counter in the men’s over 40s race, placing sixth in the age category.

He completed a flat, dry course in 25:16, climbing the order to finish 18th overall in a combined field.

“It was an extremely fast race, not the long slog through a mud bath I usually prefer,” he said.

“I was further down than I had hoped after the first mile, but managed to pick off a few people before the finish. I was happy with that given that the past four months’ training has been interrupted by injuries.”

England edged Republic of Ireland into second spot in the men’s 40-44 class, with Scotland third.
