PUPILS from schools in mid Cheshire will represent Cheshire at an inter county competition for the Mason Trophy tomorrow, Saturday.

Eight recently-crowned county champions, led by Elliot Bowker (County High School Leftwich), Fisayo Williamson-Taylor (Grange School) and Jenny Pyatt (St Nicholas RC High School), who delivered national standard performances to claim gold at Macclesfield last weekend are among the 20-strong group.

Those three were victors in the inter boys’ 3,000m, junior boys’ 100m and junior girls’ discus respectively.

Javelin thrower Harry Lord (Grange), hurdler Katie Frith (Weaverham), endurance runner Katie Gerrard (Grange), discus thrower Amy Howarth (Weaverham) and sprinter Will Nowell (County High School Leftwich) are the other champions from schools in mid Cheshire to have made the team.

Seven schools – Hartford Church of England, Middlewich and Winsford E-Act Academy are the others – from mid Cheshire have contributed an athlete to the squad.

Athletes are hoping to impress selectors for Cheshire’s team at next months’ English Schools Athletics Association (ESAA) Track and Field Championships in Birmingham.

The same venue, Alexander Stadium, hosts tomorrow’s event.
