VALE Royal Athletics Club’s newest recruit, Great Britain international Katie Brough, clocked a lifetime best at last weekend’s BUPA Great Manchester Run.
The 31-year-old completed the 10K distance in 34:03, lowering her previous personal milestone – set at Birchwood last year – by more than two minutes.
It earned her seventh spot in the Elite women’s category, defeating World Championship marathon contender Susan Partridge and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Helen Clitheroe.
Warrington-based Brough switched last month from her home town club to Vale Royal, where she will be coached by Andy Carter.
Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba claimed the women's title with in a course record time of 30:49, more than a minute ahead of Latvian Jelena Prokopcuka, a runner-up back in 2005, and Christelle Daunay, from France, who placed second two years ago.
There was success for Vale Royal in the junior categories, run over a shorter distance, with Ben Lee taking the under 12s boys’ title and Jon Owen finishing third in the under 15s boys’ race.
