JOSH Glover has shown his commitment to Witton Albion by signing a contract until the end of the current campaign.

The versatile teenager, who has occupied positions in both midfield and defence on the pitch so far this term, agreed terms with the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club this week.

“It’s important we show the same faith in him as he has in us,” said Witton boss Brian Pritchard.

“Josh has a lot to offer; he’s been involved in most games so far this season and he’s always been reliable.

“His versatility makes for competition for places, which is what every manager wants to have.”

Glover played as a deep-lying midfielder in last weekend’s FA Trophy success against league rivals Blyth Spartans, but has featured as a full back and central defender too.

He arrived in Wincham a year ago following a trial period with home town club Stoke City.

Pritchard added: “He came here as a left back, a position in which he’s been developed over the past few years.

“It’s a role he’s not let himself down in, although personally I think he can become an established player in the centre of defence.

“He’s been banging on the door for an opportunity, which he’s earned with his attitude.”

Glover, now 19, represented the England Schools’ FA’s U18s team last year while still a student at Newcastle College.

He played for Staffordshire in the FA County Youth Cup before making more than a dozen appearances in Witton’s promotion-winning season.

Brain you are obviously a genius! These young lads could easily move for more money but they recognise that playing under you is far more valuable in the long term. We are a lovely, friendly club and anyone, and I mean anyone who wants to see a team try to play good football should come down and enjoy the fun.
I say this to Vics fans, until you have your club back you will be welcome at Wincham Park.
