Witton Albion manager Brian Pritchard says switch to Clitheroe is right one for striker Mark Buchan

BRIAN Pritchard believes forward Mark Buchan will become a better player after he left Witton.

The Albion boss released the Scottish-born striker minutes after Saturday’s FA Trophy win against Blyth Spartans, allowing him to sign for Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One North club Clitheroe.

“I can’t continue not allowing Mark to play football,” he said.

“He needs games, something that I’ve not been able to afford him with two other front men to find room for in the team.”

The 20-year-old has made seven substitute appearances without scoring in league and cup this term, but he did hit the net 10 times in Witton’s promotion-winning campaign last term.

However the arrival of Shaun Tuck from Skelmersdale, plus the fine form of Ashley Stott in front of goal to date, has seen him start every game from the bench.

“Mark is a quick and energetic forward who has a real eye for goal,” Clitheroe manager Paul Moore told his club’s official website.

“He is at an age when he’ll continue to learn, and I’m sure he’ll be a fantastic addition.”

Buchan could play a part in Clitheroe’s trip to Radcliffe tomorrow, Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.
