Match Pointers
WITTON Albion turn their attention to the FA Cup, a competition they enter at a later stage this season as a reward for being promoted.

Brian Pritchard’s men reached the fourth qualifying round last term before bowing out against Blue Square Bet Premier outfit Barrow, banking more than £16,000 in prize money along the way.

The visitors have not won since beating Chorley on their own pitch, a sequence of four matches, so have an extra incentive to beat lower-ranked Burscough.

New recruit Joe Shaw continues to recover from surgery, so is unavailable, but midfielder Steve Connors could be recalled after playing for Witton’s reserves against Colne last night, Thursday.

Witton’s manager has not ruled out shuffling his pack either to give players nursing an injury extra time to recover.

Hosts Burscough, relegated from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s top tier last term, needed extra time to see off North West Counties League challengers Padiham in a replay on Wednesday night.

They will be without Niall Cummins through injury, so Louis Mayers is likely to lead the Linnets’ attack.

Liam Caddick and Darren Brookfield, who scored the winner in midweek, have recovered from knocks though.
