Witton were given a reality check in last night's friendly defeat against Trafford according to Brian Pritchard

ALBION boss Brian Pritchard admits Trafford delivered his team a reality check in Tuesday’s friendly.

Witton succumbed to a 4-2 defeat against their former Evo-Stik Northern Premier League rivals despite Ashley Stott handing them a first half lead.

“We capitulated in the second half,” he said.

“To lose at this stage of pre-season is no bad thing though; it sharpens minds and reminds players that they can’t just turn up and expect to win every match.

“For us, it was a reality check.”

He said Witton were better before the break with a stronger line-up, one that included returning captain Anthony Sheehan and former fans’ favourite Steve Connors.

Trafford hit back though to run out comfortable victors.

“I’m a bit alarmed that we shipped four goals,” added Pritchard.

“I felt that we were perhaps a bit too cavalier at times, and there’s no doubt that substitutions affected our game too.

“That said, the defending was woeful for one or two of their goals.”

The visitors were without injured midfield pair Matt Cross (calf) and Joe Shaw (ankle), while Paul Booth is still away.

Josh Glover sat out the contest as a precaution, while Mathew Wood is nursing a knock to his ankle.

Attackers Chris Gahgan and Liam Newman returned to action though.

Albion continue their pre-season programme at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League newcomers Ramsbottom United this Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Lots of changes in the second half so I understand. I still believe the FULL team will do really well in the Premier League.
