Witton Albion invite best players from open trial to join first team for training

AT least two trialists will join Witton’s players for their first pre-season session this Saturday.

The pair impressed manager Brian Pritchard enough at last weekend’s open trial to earn an invite this weekend when Albion’s promotion-winning group comes back together.

“It proves that there are players out there,” said Pritchard.

“There was a mix of lads of different ages and experience, but almost without exception they’ve played at a decent level.”

More than a dozen took part in the session.

Witton’s squad, with the exception of already-departed top scorer Alex Titchiner, will play in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s top tier next term following its play-offs success in April.

New recruit Joe Shaw, signed from former Division One North rivals Trafford, meets his new teammates for the first time this weekend too.

Pritchard says he will repeat the trial in future, urging other clubs to do the same.

He added: “I think everybody should do it, it’s a no-brainer.

“Aside from the two joining the first team, there are a number of others that I think can fit into our reserve team with a view to working their way up from there.”

The club’s reserve team is expected to play again in the Galaxy.co.uk Lancashire League’s West Division next season.
