Thor Specialities (UK) Ltd has completed a deal to buy Northwich Victoria's home ground

STATEMENT: Thor confirms it now owns Vics' ground STATEMENT: Thor confirms it now owns Vics' ground

THOR wishes to announce that it has now completed the purchase of the Victoria Stadium at Wincham.

However we are disappointed to advise that negotiations with Northwich Victoria Football Club (2007) Limited, which would have allowed the team to use the stadium for the rest of the season, have broken down.

Thor has made every effort to assist, but at the last minute the club changed what Thor believed to be an agreed deal and has rejected the proposal.

The headline terms of the proposal on offer by Thor were as follows:

1. The club could continue to play at the Victoria Stadium for the remainder of the season, including play-offs.

2. A reduced rent would have been charged.

3. Thor would have donated the rent to the supporters’ fund.

4. Thor would have been willing to discuss assisting with the cost of ground sharing arrangements for next season.

5. Thor would have maintained and paid for security for ground access and would have opened up at 8am each morning during the season and closed at 10pm. Where there was a late kick-off, the ground would have remained open until midnight.

6. Northwich Victoria Developments Limited, Jim Rushe and the club would have agreed to vacate by the end of the season and the club could, if it wished, haveremoved the Dane Bank and main stand.

Thor however wanted to ensure that, if the club did remove the stands, they would only be used for the benefit of Northwich Victoria in the future.

7. As part of the overall deal and as a gesture of good faith, the club and Mr Rushe would have agreed not to object to any future planning application.

8. An agreed press statement would have been issued outlining the deal and thanking the parties for concluding negotiations in an amicable manner.

Beaconet Limited, the company owning the stadium, went into liquidation in January 2009.

Thor believes that the club has had the opportunity to buy the site but has not done so.

The receivers of Beaconet [Deloitte Touche] granted to Northwich Victoria Developments Limited, a company of which Mr Rushe is a director, a licence in August last year allowing use of the stadium

But this could be ended by the receiver on three days’ notice.

The club was allowed to play last Saturday’s match at the stadium as a gesture of good faith in the hope that a deal could be concluded for the rest of the season.

Thor regrets the action of the club in not agreeing to the deal proposed. As a result, the club will now not be able to play at the stadium.

Thor is happy to meet with representatives of the club’s supporters to explain the situation and its rejected offer in more detail.

Thor has now been placed in a position where it has had to withdraw an offer which it had no obligation to make in the first place.

Thor is a British-owned company. It has purchased the ground in good faith in order to expand its business which will be of benefit to the local community.

In the end it may be the best thing for Vics supporters, they can now take over the club, give it a new name and start again in the lower leagues and maybe ground share with Lostock who I am sure would love the stand and floodlights. If Vics insist on remaining in the higher league they will have to ground share with some one like Altrincham or Nantwich and how many supporters would go that far for a home game? No, time to start again and this time paying wages they can afford.

There is never a dull moment at the vics and it still wouldn't suprise me if there wasn't another twist in this sorry saga.

Similar to Witton's wages?

Yes, why not? Vics have been paying money out that was not theirs for years then paying only a fraction of it back, it could not go on forever. Even the wages Witton pay stretch their resources but survival is surely more important than short term success?

I wouldn't call 40+ yrs short term success. NVFC have single handedly put Northwich on the map for decades. What a great pity that we didn't have planners that made sensible decisions when we left the DF causing inexcusable delays whilst groundsharing at witton.
Witton of course welcomed the extra revenue whilst Vics were left around £500 k short which could have just seen us over the winning line in building the VS and not leaving us broke and ripe for one man takeovers.
Bizarrely the reason for the move away from the DF at the time was Conference ground criteria which placed the DF short of the 6k capacity demands.A short time after we left, the criteria was reduced to 4k!!
Whilst we have made poor financial decisions over the years (like many other clubs, witton included) we have been dogged with twists of bad luck/fate.
What a pity that the VS, as one of the very few nicest things the town can be proud about could now be bulldozed to the ground, the voluntary hard earned money, work, time and efforts of the fans helping to erect the stadium, a considerable amount of tax payers money (Football foundation grants in the hundreds of thousands), and other wasted public money involved in the planning and construction of the VS appears now to be all in vain. A GREAT OPPORTUNITY missed for the town, Vics,Witton, local authority/community/ schools/councils etc etc to come together to make the VS a stadium for the future generations of the Northwich public, it would have taken just days to neutralise the VS and help secure the future of Vics,Witton and football in the town at an exceptional venue. However just as it appears throughout the town in general, lack of vision/ambition and sadly Northwich loses a facilty that could have been used for much much more than just football.

VS - RIP
NVFC - If it is to be the end, thanks for the memories, at least the club has shown ambition and has been a credit to non- league football and the town for many decades, it is a huge name in non league terms and despite wittons more stable future as it appears, I wouldn't have missed the last 40 yrs for watching a team in the lower leagues with very little success. As for the next 40 years - who knows, the world is changing, football is changing and smaller clubs will only get smaller!

This is very sad for all involved with Vics, but hopefully we can stick together and with the backing of the Sports Federation fight it all the way.

the real losers are the people who have done work for these football clubs and businesses. they recieve little or no payment at all while the football club or business goes into administration or recievership and starts up afresh again. they should be made to pay all their debts off before being allowed to start up again!!
