Hednesford strike blow in Premier Division title race after completing double over Chester

HEDNESFORD Town matched Chester’s points haul at the Premier Division summit after ending the leaders’ nine-matches unbeaten run on Saturday.

Goals from Chris Clements and Gary Hay were enough to earn the Pitmen a 2-1 success at the Exacta Stadium.

Third-placed Northwich Victoria ended a torrid week with a goalless draw at relegation-haunted Frickley Athletic, while Chorley bounced back from a defeat against the same opponents last week to beat Buxton.

The Bucks have now not won any of their past eight matches at Silverlands.

Marine continue to occupy the final play-offs place following their win at strugglers Whitby Town, but Bradford Park Avenue and FC United of Manchester are close behind.

The former ended a five-matches run without a victory against Nantwich Town, while the Rebels proved too strong for Chasetown.

Improving Kendal Town edged out Matlock Town, now without an away win in nine attempts, while Stafford Rangers recorded their biggest home win of the term to date at the expense of Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Rock-bottom Burscough picked up a point at North Ferriby United, who have now not hit the net in their past four league games.
