STEVE Stockton prevented Lostock players making up the entire semi finals line-up in the Mid-Cheshire League’s Open Singles Championship, writes Keith Mitchell.
The Winnington man, who earlier caught fifth seed Dave Nelson (Manweb) cold at the group stages, hauled himself back from two-sets down to beat second seed Geoff Cummings in a five-sets thriller.
There were shocks elsewhere too.
In-form Tim Turner (Winnington) dumped out third seed Craig Lee (Club Mid-Cheshire) in straight sets before racing into a two-sets lead over Jeremy Ikin in the last eight.
But the Lostock regular was not to be denied, launching a comeback of his own to win the next three and set up a semi finals date with fellow fighter Stockton in April.
Drama was in short supply in the other half of the draw, where top seed Terry Turner (Lostock) cruised through to the last four.
There he will meet clubmate Steve Stringer, who counts Pete Battison (Winnington) and Winston Duff (Lostock) among his victims en route.
