WHEATSHEAF, winners only three times in a dozen matches so far this season, put their Northwich and District League woes behind them on Wednesday.
The wooden spoonists won by the odd frame in seven at fellow Division One strugglers Greenbank to reach the last 16 of the Team Knockout competition.
Gladstone A beat their lower-ranked clubmates, joining Castle Private A, Owley Wood A and Division One leaders Rudheath in the next round after they all eased through to the next stage.
Hartford A sprung a surprise in the Supplementary Shield’s preliminary round when they dumped out clubmates Hartford B, currently fourth in the league’s top tier.
Both Ring o Bells representatives fell at the first hurdle against RAOB A and Drum & Monkey respectively.
Meanwhile in the league, Barn Owl E and promotion hopefuls Pillar of Salt B were victors at the expense of RAOB B and Volunteer B.
The league programme in all three divisions resumes in a fortnight.
