LOSTOCK and Manweb are separated by a single point at the top of the Mid-Cheshire League heading into the winter break, writes Keith Mitchell.
Both teams whitewashed their opponents – Lostock fourths and Manweb seconds respectively – in the third week of the competition’s new-look Super Sixes.
Champions Club Mid Cheshire are two points further back in third place after beating Winnington.
Winnington thirds lead the way in Division Two, again by a one point margin, with Lostock’s second and third teams sharing second place.
This week Lostock seconds were comfortable victors at the expense of fellow Works Lane outfit Lostock fifths, when Geoff Mee and Eric Baker both scored maximums.
Early pacesetters Cuddington edged out closest rivals Lostock sixths in Division Three.
Steve Peach was their star turn – winning all three of his matches over the Lafferty family representatives Simon, Matt and Liam.
Pete Rowlinson also chipped in with two wins.
For the Lostock boys Matt Lafferty beat both Rowlinson and Phil Monton before he was beaten by in-form Peach in the fifth set.
The league programme resumes at the end of next month.
Before then the Mid-Cheshire League hosts its annual Closed Championships, starting on January 4 with the Super Vets Open and Doubles competitions.
