NORTHWICH rowers are in action at the world-famous Henley Royal Regatta from today, Wednesday.
The Grange School’s junior quad sculls foursome of Will Broderick, Tom Ford, Rob Sherry and Rupert Wiltshire qualified for the Fawley Challenge Cup last week.
Their reward is a race against Royal Chester and Queen’s Park High School in the first round tomorrow, Thursday.
“It’s quite an achievement,” said head coach Graham Jump.
“Henley is a prestigious event in the rowing calendar and we’re pleased to be a part of it for the second successive year.”
Last year Tom and Rupert teamed up with Ed and John Ford in a coxless quad to become the first crew from the school to qualify for the annual regatta.
Despite a strong start, they were beaten by American seeds Malvern Preparatory School in the first round.
Olympic silver medallist and former Northwich Rowing Club star Matt Langridge is also in action at Henley this week, with the GB men’s four entering the Stewards’ Challenge Cup in a combined Leander Club/University of Reading boat.
They were third at last week’s World Cup regatta in Munich.
