Why should I watch..?

Because these two teams are almost a guarantee of goals.

Winsford drew first blood during the current campaign when they ran out 3-1 victors during a Macron Cup tie last month – their third victory against 1874 in seven meetings.

And Blues start tomorrow’s contest as the form team after losing only one of their past 10 matches in all competitions.

They have shown remarkable spirit too, twice coming from 2-0 down to earn draws against Charnock Ashton Athletic in home games over the past fortnight.

1874 are feeling positive too after a promising performance during a draw with Hanley on Saturday – their fifth game in a seven-day period last week.

They start a new week occupying 10th place in the North West Counties League’s top-flight.

What they’ve said

“We ran Hanley off the pitch in the second-half on Saturday, and they were hanging on desperately by the end.

“Our players are due enormous credit for that considering the week that they’ve had.

“I was impressed with Winsford when we played against them [last month]; they’ve got good attacking players and their approach always starts from ‘What do we need to do to win?’”

Wayne Goodison, 1874 Northwich co-manager

“My players always look forward go games against 1874, and this one is no different.

“I’ve said it many times, but we are at our most dangerous when we’re not expected to win, and that’s what we’ll be giving it a real go to do.

“We’ll need to improve on our performance against Ashton though; I felt we didn’t reach the high standards that we’ve set in the past few weeks, although we kept going.”

Lee Duckworth, Winsford United’s player-manager

Numbers game

Tomorrow’s encounter starts a run of 16 games in 30 days for 1874 Northwich, all but one of them a North West Counties League fixture

Man to keep an eye on

Callam Gardner

The wide man is enjoying himself this season, and increased his goal tally to 15 when he converted a late penalty to earn Blues a point against Ashton on Saturday.

He has become an important supply line too, both in open play and from set-pieces, for Winsford’s attack this season.

1874 team news

Sam Freakes and Danny Meadowcroft are both unavailable, while Jake Parker (knee) is ruled out by injury.

Meanwhile Ryan Jackson is waiting to discover the extent of a foot injury that ended early his involvement in a 1-1 draw with Hanley on Saturday.

Shelton Payne sat out that game with flu, while Matthew Russell (hip) continues to nurse a knock.

Winsford team news

Manager Lee Duckworth will wait before making a decision on the inclusion of Damian Skolozysnki or Scott Taylor after they both pulled up during a draw with Ashton on Saturday.

Jordan Johnson (knee) is definitely out, while Danny McLaughlin was on duty with Mossley yesterday and will be again tomorrow.

Meanwhile midfielder rMichael Taylor is ruled out by an injury.
