SAM Hind scored late to keep 1874 Northwich in the FA Cup, and now they can dream of landing a big fish in Monday’s draw.

And that could make a replay with Mossley the following night even more enticing.

They’re a dab hand too at taking second chances; progress in each of the past two rounds has only been made after prevailing in a re-run.

Seeing off a higher-ranked foe was always likely to be a stern assignment, and so it proved.

The Lilywhites played for close to an hour with 10 men following Adam Latham’s first-half dismissal for violent conduct, but they still managed to take the lead twice.

The hosts’ goalkeeper was busier than Greg Hall at the other end during the first half, and he reacted well to keep out Scott McGowan’s flicked attempt from closer range.

He was equal as well to attempts from Jake Parker and Taylor Kennerley.

Latham’s early exit followed, but Mossley reached the interval with an advantage.

Hall, under pressure from Liam Ellis, could not keep hold of a free-kick lofted into the penalty area.

The attacker was bundled over in the ensuing scramble and referee Peter Buck, after initially playing an advantage, pointed to the spot.

Jack Tuohy kept calm to convert.

Mason Duffy’s drive from distance also prompted Hall to save smartly early in the second period.

However 1874 drew level on the hour, Hind slamming a loose ball into the net after Mossley’s defence failed to clear.

Kennerley fired wide, then a sweeping move from one end of the field to the other ended with Keenan Quansah’s shot being blocked by Hall.

He was helpless to prevent Ellis making it 2-1 though, again at the end of a breakaway.

It was not enough to drain 1874 of resolve, and a team managed by Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison earned a second crack at the Northern Premier League outfit when Hind bundled a loose ball over the line after Martin had parried McGowan’s initial attempt.
