IAN Street will challenge the players he picks for tonight’s Cheshire FA Senior Cup tie to make him think twice about who he selects for Saturday’s clash with Atherton Collieries.

1874 Northwich can reach the semi finals for the first time if they defeat higher-ranked Nantwich Town tonight, kick off 7.45pm.

“I want the lads that play to give me something to ponder,” he said.

“I’ve a side in mind for the weekend, but I’m open to changing that if I see something I like [against Nantwich].”

He is unlikely to risk midfielder Mark Jones (groin) against his former club, while Ryan Mitchell is suffering with a similar niggle.

Sam Hind (hamstring) sat out Saturday’s win against Squires Gate, and will be given more time to recover.

Meanwhile Danny Thomas (face) and Ryan Jackson (knee) are both long-term injury absentees.

The likes of recent recruit Joel Douglas, Tyler Edwards, Scott McGowan and Dahrius Waldron are all in line to play from the first minute.

Street said: “We want to win.

“I looked along the bench at the weekend and felt reassured I could change the game no matter who I put on – there’s no sense that we’d have been weaker.

“That’s how I feel about making changes, but I also need to protect what I have with Saturday’s game in mind because I want everybody to be as close to 100 per cent fit as possible.”

Hosts Nantwich sit fourth in the Northern Premier League’s top-flight, two levels higher than 1874, after a 1-1 draw away to Sutton Coldfield on Saturday.

Tonight’s tie will be played to a conclusion, with extra time and penalties if required.

Normal admission prices apply.
