1874 hope to put behind them the disappointment of a derby defeat on Boxing Day when they travel to back-markers Cammell Laird on Friday night.

They completed a double over the Birkenhead outfit last season, and will do the same tomorrow if they return home to Cheshire with maximum points.

Ian Street’s side are unbeaten in their past 10 away matches in the North West Counties League’s top-flight, winning seven.

Cammell Laird have yet to win in the Premier Division this term, losing 21 of their 27 fixtures to date.

Numbers game

1874 have won all four previous meetings with Cammell Laird in league and cup, without conceding a goal.

And only one team, Bootle, has prevented them from scoring on their travels in the Premier Division this season.

Meanwhile Cammell Laird have netted first in a game on only five occasions.

Man to keep an eye on

Scott McGowan

It’s in games like this, when 1874 are likely to have plenty of opportunities, that they need their front men to be at their sharpest.

The former Congleton man netted twice in the return game, which finished 5-0 back in September, and has 17 goals to his name this season.

Along with Tom Bailey, who has 19, he’ll be expecting to score in this game.

1874 team news

Paul Connor and Matthew Russell, both full-backs, are available again after serving a suspension.

Lee Jones, ineligible for a Boxing Day defeat against landlords Winsford, returns too along with Danny Thomas.

Ryan Jackson (knee) is a long-term injury absentee, while the Woolley brothers – Matthew, Jack and Joe – are unavailable due to having a family commitment.

Remember when…

1874 Northwich eliminated Cammell Laird in the Cheshire FA Senior Cup…?

Ian Street’s side saw off Cammell Laird, playing two levels higher in the Northern Premier League’s second tier, in the first round in January 2014.

Dean McGregor put them ahead before a second-half goal from substitute Mike McGinlay settled the outcome.

However goalkeeper Matthew Conkie was the visitors’ star turn.
