1874 NORTHWICH seek a fourth successive win in the North West Counties League when they travel tomorrow to take on opponents that have proved difficult to overcome in the past.

Ian Street’s side are buoyed though by beating leaders Runcorn Town 3-2 last time out.

It promoted him to describe it as among his most significant victories since taking charge of the club shortly after its formation back in 2012.

Liverpool, currently seventh, would be closer to the top five had they not received a three-point deduction as punishment for playing Freddie Potter when he was ineligible during a 5-2 win against Barnoldswick in August.

Numbers game

1874 have won only one in five previous meetings with AFC Liverpool, a 1-0 victory secured by Tyler Edwards’ winner in April.

It is the only time Ian Street’s side have scored the first goal when the rivals have met.

Reds have two victories, including a 3-1 success in the return earlier this season.

Tomorrow’s hosts are also one of the division’s form teams after winning their past four matches.

Man to keep an eye on

Lee Jones

Made his first appearance for the club in two years at right-back last weekend, filling in for absent Paul Connor.

Before that he had featured twice for 1874’s landlords, Winsford United, earlier in the campaign.

That’s not a lot of football, and the consistency of Connor is difficult to replicate.

1874 team news

Paul Connor is suspended, but defender Danny Thomas returns from a ban after sitting out last Saturday’s success against Runcorn.

Joe Woolley (hamstring) is still ruled out by injury, but full-back Matty Russell is ok to feature after recovering from a blow to the head during last weekend’s game.

Matthew Woolley is available again too.

Remember when…

1874 played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with AFC Liverpool in last season’s corresponding fixture?

Ian Street’s side had trailed 2-0 and then 3-1 before goals from leading scorer Matthew Beadle – his second of the game – and Matthew Ward earned a share of the spoils.
