A GOAL in each half from Craig Farnworth helped 1874 Northwich extend a winning sequence to four matches on Saturday.

He hadn’t hit the net in any of his previous 53 appearances for the club.

It means Ian Street’s side have a repeat of last season’s third-place finish within reach.

They broke through shortly before the interval at Nelson, when Farnworth sent a powerful shot on the half-volley into the top corner.

Before that, the visitors had gone closest when Tyler Edwards met Ryan Jackson’s corner with a header that was cleared off the line.

The home team, following an interval rally, twice prompted goalkeeper Greg Hall to make saves early in the second half.

He was alert again on 55 minutes, turning a well-struck attempt to safety.

Danny Thomas glanced wide another Jackson flag kick at the other end, while Stuart Wellstead’s goal-bound shot was blocked a defender.

Neil Chappell almost doubled the visitors’ lead, only for his drive from distance to scrape a post.

However the points were made safe with time running out when Farnworth again found the target after the Admirals, beaten now in six of their past eight Premier Division fixtures, only part-cleared a set-piece.
