IAN Street did not hesitate to answer when asked where success in the Men United Cup ranked in his priorities.

His message was clear too ahead of tonight’s rearranged third round encounter with Premier Division rivals Ashton Athletic.

“I want to win it,” said the 1874 Northwich boss.

“To me, there’s no saying one game is more important than another.

“I’d love for us to contest a final, and to win a trophy – it would represent another step forward for the club.

“We fell short last year, going out at this stage against Colne, so at the very least we’d like to improve on that.”

The tie has been originally scheduled to take place at Barton Stadium, but has been reversed after successive postponements – the most recent a fortnight ago.

1874 have an added incentive to beat Street’s former team; they went down 4-0 at Brocstedes Park back in October while he was on holiday.

New recruit Ben Brooks is ineligible after playing for another club in a previous round, while full-back Louis James (hamstring) continues to nurse an injury.

Danny Thomas and Ryan Jackson both came through a friendly against Altrincham reserves on Saturday, and are available for selection.

1874 reached the last four on their debut in the North West Counties League’s knockout competition two years ago before bowing out against then higher-ranked Maine Road 6-1 on aggregate.

Kick off tonight is at 7.45pm.

Barnton will host the victors in the quarter finals.
