LEE Duckworth has insisted 1874 Northwich are under more pressure to win a Boxing Day derby against his Winsford side.

He was a starter for Blues’ tenants in last season’s fixture, but told the Guardian he will set aside sentiment for 90 minutes this weekend.

“Of course I want to win, not for me but for our fans,” he said.

“1874 want to be promoted, so will need the points to keep bobbing along at the top of the table.

“I don’t mind that; for our lads, it’s a platform to perform on and show what they’re capable of.”

Duckworth left 1874 at the end of last season to join Winsford again, and replaced Rob Byrne in the dugout in October.

But he still counts Ian Street, his opposite number on Saturday afternoon, as a close friend.

“I’ve known him a long time, and he’s given me great advice already since I became manager,” said the 34-year-old.

“We’ve only had friendly banter so far, but I’m sure he’ll get more serious as the week goes on.

“My memories of being there are good ones, and we achieved a lot together in two years.

“I’m sure that won’t stop their fans giving me grief from the touchline though!”

Attacking midfielder Danny Egan is definitely out while he completes a ban.

Meanwhile Duckworth believes what he knows about his former club’s players won’t be much help.

He added: “They’ve changed personnel since I left, so my inside knowledge only goes so far.

“What we can be sure of is they have quality all over the pitch.

“What I want my lads to do is enjoy the experience of playing in a big game.”
