Match pointers

1874 NORTHWICH, semi-finalists in this competition on their debut last season, begin their latest bid to win the trophy at Premier Division rivals Barnoldswick Town.

Ian Street’s men are unbeaten in their past 10 matches in all competitions, winning nine of those.

1874 were comfortable victors, by 3-1, when the teams met in a league encounter at Barton Stadium back in August.

The visitors will be without suspended duo David Short and Danny Thomas, while attacker Stuart Wellstead is nursing a hamstring injury.

Lee Jones and Matthew Ward are both available again after missing last Saturday’s success against Maine Road.

Barnoldswick, penultimate bottom of the table, have won only twice in front of their own supporters this term.

They have failed to win any of their past seven games, losing six of them, while no opposition team has visited the Silentnight Stadium to date and not scored.

Their best run in the competition was to the last four in 2012, when they lost to Bacup.
